Local Environmental Groups
Potomac River Keepers Network (PRKN)
PRKN’s mission is to protect the right to clean water for all communities that rely on the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers’ Watersheds. Their goals are to stop pollution, make water safe to drink, protect the health of river habitats, and enhance use and enjoyment for all who experience these rivers.
The Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS)
AWS seeks to protect and restore the Anacostia River by bringing together partners and community leaders to achieve a clean and safe Anacostia River. Their motto is “a swimmable and fishable river” coursing through the Nation’s Capital for all in the watershed and for future generations.
Clean Water Action
Clean Water Action is a DC-based advocacy group working for clean and healthy water from watershed to tap. Their programs involve tens of thousands of citizens every year through outreach, education, organizing, advocacy, and policy action at local, state, and national levels.
Wild Virginia
Wild Virginia leads an effort to reform the way the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and State Water Control Board apply our water quality standards. This group seeks to ensure that standards are improved to fully protect our waters.
DC Environmental Network (DCEN)
Founded in 1996, DCEN works to rebuild Washington DC neighborhoods for long-term economic and environmental sustainability. Most recently, they have championed the passage of DC’s Bottle Bill (a return and refund plan). Other projects include:

This organization has a mission to restore the quality of Baltimore’s rivers, streams, and the Harbor. It takes a holistic approach to making safe, clean, water a reality in the City by on-going monitoring and holding polluters accountable.
