Clean water advocacy continues…
The Potomac Riverkeepers Network will post their end of the year report. It has been a year of wins and some losses in their efforts to stop pollution of our Potomac River. This organization continues to challenge development plans along the river, along with water quality monitoring and watchdog efforts of existing potential polluters.
A complete wrap up of their work over the past year can be found at potomacriverkeepersnetwork.org
The Anacostia Watershed Society has launched a Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring program in collaboration with Xylem (providing the equipment) and Anacostia Riverkeeper (providing the workers). This program will provide important information in understanding the River’s health. The collected data will support science-based decision-making improvements….leading to the goal of a swimmable and fishable Anacostia. Alert! Wild and Scenic Rivers in W.V.
Sixteen streams within the Monongahela National Forest are eligible for Wild and Scenic Rivers designation. In addition to providing drinking water sources, these streams protect species such as the eastern brook trout, fresh water mussels, and the candy darter. The designation will also preserve habitat for other endangered species. To learn more about the value of these streams and the efforts to protect them see a full post on our CWA Environmental Page or just click on: www.wvwaterways.org
