Fly of the Month: Scud

Each month we highlight a fly pattern that we think you should know and carry - this month it is the Scud!

Tying scud patterns can be tedious, but they are effective. Scuds, which are little shrimp, can be found in every freshwater stream year round, so they are always a solid option to tie on when you aren’t sure what the fish are eating. You can tie a scud in pink, green, beige — almost anything you can imagine. We have had times when the only fly in the box that works will be a scud, so they are always worthwhile to have handy.
