Fly of the Month: Charlie Craven Golden Stone

Each month we highlight a fly pattern that we think you should know and carry - this month it is Charlie Craven’s Golden Stone!

Unlike last month’s fly (the zebra midge) that is tied with few materials, Charlie Craven’s Golden Stone is a busy fly with a lot of components, but it’s a killer pattern on big trout. The Golden Stone is a very buggy fly that we’ve had success with owing to the uniqueness of the pattern. It’s not one you’ll find sold in many stores, so trout are often fooled by the pattern. Be warned, it doesn’t sink as fast as similar patterns, so you may need to cast further upstream to afford it time to sink into the strike zone.
